Schedules and Drop/Add Advantages and disadvantages” Workshop

             “The Student Support Unit at the College of Science and Humanities in Hawtat Sedeir held a workshop to the faculty members regarding the Schedules and Drop/Add Advantages and disadvantagesThe workshop, which took place on Monday, 12/01/1439 at the Auditorium, addressed the advantages and disadvantages of course dropping and adding at the College departments in 1438/39 first semester. The coordinators of the schedules presented the benefits and disadvantages of course dropping and adding at the onset of the first semester, in addition to the recommendations of the workshop. Disadvantages of course dropping and adding1-    Students register in courses of different levels.2-    Student’s failure to fulfill the requirement of a prerequisite course. 3-    Some students fail to complete the minimum required academic load due to failure to complete the previous requirement.4-    Students become unable to add e-courses for different course codes, especially in line with the previous Study Plan.5-    The failure to add the new students’ schedules electronically into the academic system, which requires a manual entry for most new students afterward. 6-    Registration problems due to full classes of the general courses. Recommendations 1-    Training three staff members and assigning them to the Register program for the various academic departments of the program regarding course dropping and adding2-    Stressing the availability  of academic advisors during course dropping and adding. 3-    Courses should be distributed to only 2 sections to avoid conflict. 4-    Granting student the authority to confirm the schedules, not the advisor 5- Confirm the final schedule before the commencement of dropping/adding process6-    Defining a clear mechanism for students’ GPA-based credit hours. 7-    The students must adhere to the level-based courses. 8-    Student advisors should have the power to edit students’ schedules after dropping and adding9-    Solving the problems of the courses of students transferring from other colleges and wishing to study the same courses in the College. 10-    Preparing second-semester schedules earlier to avoid similar problems.
