College of Sciences and Humanities in Houtat Sudir Holds Induction Ceremony for the Academic Year 1434/1435 H

The Faculty of Science and Humanities in Hawtet Sedeir held a reception ceremony for its new students, celebrating their joining of the faculty. The ceremony, which is held regularly for the freshmen, was part of the recent procedures of the college set forth by several committees under the supervision of the Central Committee. Mr. Mishaal Al-Samhan- a lecturer at the Faculty- commenced the event with recitation from the Holy Quran, and then Dr. Ziad Al-Omar- Vice-dean of the Quality and Development Department- gave a speech about the academic relationship between the College and its students. “Academic performance is linked to good-manners. A student who is well-behaved is more likely to be respectful and successful,” Dr. Ziad said. “Our students are our reflection to the society, and that’s why we stress the morals and good manners here at our College,” Dr. Ziad added. Another speech from the Faculty Dean, Dr. Suleiman Al-Bahlal, followed. He stressed the strategic aspects of the University, among which is the introduction of the faculty departments along with the heads of Units and academic counselors. Dr. Suleiman urged students to consult their academic advisors regarding addition and cancelling of courses. “Students can also go to the Academic portal on the University Website to get further information on the courses,” Dr. Suleiman added. “Your job here as a student is to come early to classes and study well in order to achieve your goals,” he continued. Then Dr. Bahlal referred to the difference between studying at a school and at a university. He said “At school, your study centers around explanations from your teachers, but the university focuses more on research and independence, considering you more mature and responsible.” In reference to appearances on campus, the dean asked students to wear the national uniform in addition to good grooming. “The University is a public institution, and it is important to wear the Saudi uniform on campus, he pointed out. “I should also mention that students must stick to the Islamic teachings that stress good cooperation and politeness as the basis of our religion,” he sustained. Knowing about the rules and regulations at the University is of paramount concern at the Faculty, as new students should be fully aware of the policy and rules in order not to ignorantly violate any of them, and then claim un-accountability. “Our communication is open to all of you; we can hear you, and we would be more delighted to listen to your suggestions and inquiries regarding the College here,” Dr. Bahlal added. He also stressed that students could go to the College website and look for “Your Voice” section to inquire about or suggest any thing,” he concluded. Dr. Abdul-Aziz Al-Hamdan- Vice-dean for Administrative Affairs delivered a third speech, in which he encouraged students to work hard and communicate with the College to solve their issues or propose any changes. At the end of the meeting, faculty members presented themselves and described their specialties to students who received guiding brochures and flyers. The documents included information on how to obtain a university ID, FAQ's guide including answers, academic prospects and terms and miscellaneous information on academic life. The floor was then given to students to raise their questions. In fact, students were divided into small discussion groups according to their departments where most queries focused on the study plans
