College of Engineering Holds Reception Day for new Students

A reception for new students was held under the patronage of Dr. Abdul-Muhsen Al-Abdul-Kareem, the College Dean on Tuesday, 06/01/1439 in the Engineering Auditorium at the College of Engineering Dr. Saleh Al-Dahash- Vice-dean for Academic Affairs- welcomed the guests and urged students to utilize the information provided on the orientation day. “The students should be prudent in selecting a major that is compatible to their aptitude after consulting their academic advisor,” Dr. Dahash started. “Job opportunities for all engineering majors are available all over the country, so the choice should be made based on the student desire to pursue a certain career that fits his capabilities,” he continued. Dr. Abdullah Al-Mehesin- Vice-dean for Quality and Development- also talked about students' selection of their major following a careful study of the benefits and disadvantages of the field using various resources such as books and experts’ reviews online. Dr. Abdullah also pointed to the job availability as a fundamental criterion for choosing a suitable major. The Head of the Civil Engineering Department, Dr. Abdullah Al-Shehri, spoke about the importance of selecting suitable majors that conform to the student’s skills and wishes, stressing that students should think carefully before choosing their majors. Representatives from the College Departments then briefed the students about the College and its departments. Afterward, Dr. Tarik Nabil- Head of Student Activity Unit- talked about the benefits of extracurricular activities in enhancing communication skills and rapport among students. At the end of the event, questions about majors and requirements were answered.
