The Vice Dean’s Office of the College of Science, represented by the Volunteering and Community Service Unit and in cooperation with the Laboratories and Information Technology Unit, organized a training course titled “Safety in the College of Science Laboratories.”

The course was presented by Ms. Badriyah Al-Shayae and aimed to raise students’ awareness of the foundations of safe work inside laboratories, familiarize them with the procedures that must be followed during scientific experiments, and highlight the importance of promoting a safety culture among students to ensure a safe and effective learning environment in the College of Science laboratories.

The course began with an introduction to the concept of a university laboratory, an overview of laboratory safety, and its importance as one of the key requirements for ensuring the protection of students and staff, minimizing accidents, and preserving equipment and research assets. The content also included a presentation of the different types of safety signs used within the college’s laboratories.

Regarding the students’ roles and responsibilities inside the laboratory, the session emphasized the importance of adhering to all supervisor instructions, reading material safety data sheets (SDS), and handling equipment with care.

At the end of the course, the importance of immediately reporting any accidents or spills was highlighted. The session also stressed the need to maintain a clean workspace and to dispose of waste using the approved methods.
