Workshop on “Academic Counseling” Held in College of Science in Zulfi

Within the activities of the Academic Counseling Week, a workshop entitled “Academic Counseling" was held for the faculty members in the College of Science in Zulfi. During the workshop, several things were clarified: academic counseling tasks, skills, work mechanisms and procedures. The workshop was honored by the presence of His Excellency the Dean of the College, Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Abudi; His Excellency the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Ziad Bin Ali Al-Hussein; His Excellency the Director of Counseling and Student Rights Unit, Dr. Yosri Azzam in addition to the heads and faculty members of all the departments of the College. At the beginning, Dr. Ziad Bin Ali Hussein welcomed the attendees and talked about the importance of the workshop and the vital role of the faculty members towards students. Then, Dr. Yousri Azzam gave a presentation on the academic counseling, in which he talked about academic counselors’ roles, tasks, skills, work mechanism as well as the goals of the Academic Counseling Week. Furthermore, Dr. Azzam mentioned that all the students had been distributed to their academic counselors, and that an updated plan had been recently created by the Unit to monitor the academic counselors’ work including the meeting with five of them at least once a week to view work progress regarding their students. Furthermore, the Head of the Unit talked about an online system designed by the Department of Computer science and Information in the College; accounts that will be created on this system for students, teachers and departments’ coordinators will provide the students with their marks and absence hours through e-mails and text messages. At the end, the Dean stressed the need to fully benefit from this system to help the students achieve the academic excellence. He also talked about the important role of academic counselors in that they provide students not only with academic skills, but also with other skills such as the communication and presentation skills. His Excellency, finally, thanked the faculty members and extended his thanks and appreciation to his Excellency the Rector for the continued efforts he exerts for students, faculty members and employees.
