MU’S TEAM PARTICIPATES IN A WORKSHOP ORGANIZED BY THE SECRETARIAT GENERAL OF COOPERATION COUNCIL ON CORONA PANDEMIC

A team of MU led by the vice-rector, Prof. Musallam al-Dosari, the vice-rector for educational affairs, Dr. Mohammed al-Oubudi and the supervisor of Social Responsibility Observatory, Dr. Faisal al-Mutairi, has participated in a workshop organized by the Secretariat General of Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf on Corona Pandemic: “Challenges and Opportunities”. Officials from ministries of higher education and scientific research as well as universities in GCC have taken part in the workshop which was virtual.

As part of the workshop agenda, Prof. al-Dosari presented the university’s experience in education during the pandemic. According to the vice-rector, the university has activated distance learning many years prior the pandemic, an act that paid dividends when it became a necessity to shift from traditional education online one.

In addition to having a top-notch system that support e-learning, Prof. al-Dosari, added that all technical, administrative, and financial procedures were automated. The university’s research and innovation capacity has also helped in dealing with this pandemic effectively.

Prof. al-Dosari concluded his talk with proposals and recommendations proposed by MU, and they are:

Establish a mutual research fund for the GCC universities to manage the universities’ functions during crisis;

Draft legislations for the GCC universities to determine the major principles of managing the university’s tasks during crisis;

Create a platform for the GCC countries to produce e-learning content;

Introduce artificial intelligence in distance learning;

Activate the role of virtual laboratories to include scientific and medical majors.

Prof. al-Dosari extended his thanks to the Secretariat General of Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf for inviting the university to such an important event.
