The College of Nursing organized an online awareness session titled "Toxoplasmosis and Women's Health: Scientific Facts to Protect Mothers and Their Babies." The initiative aimed to raise awareness of toxoplasmosis, promote preventive measures during pregnancy, and enhance public health knowledge within the community.
The session was delivered by Dr. Fatima Zaghloul Mahmoud, who explained toxoplasmosis as a parasitic infection that can affect both maternal and fetal health. She discussed how the infection is transmitted, its symptoms and potential complications—particularly during pregnancy—as well as methods of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
The session also highlighted the importance of health education and the role of nursing professionals in the early identification of at-risk cases and in educating expectant mothers about preventive practices. These included maintaining good personal hygiene, thoroughly cooking meat, and handling pets safely to reduce the risk of infection and protect the health of both mother and baby.
Participants actively engaged in the session through questions and discussions.
