CAUSES OF BACTERIAL DISEASES IN SMOKERS OF “SHISHA” IDENTIFIED BY MU RESEARCH GROUP

A research group from college of applied medical sciences at Majmaah University was able to determine the causes of bacterial diseases for smokers of Shisha, in a research published in International Scientific Journal of Biomedical Research – a renowned journal in USA–.

The primary aim of the research was identifying the level of microbial pollution of Shisha’s components. Samples were collected at various locations in Saudi Arabia and were tested biomechanically. The study found that the bacteria associated with Shisha was one of the causes for bacterial pneumonia and lower respiratory tract infections.

Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah AlAidarous -head of the research group- warned that pollution found in Shisha, particularly in cafes-  is alarming and may contribute in spreading bacterial diseases.
He also emphasized the importance of taking serious measures by respected authorities on Shisha cafes’ owners to halt the transmission of diseases among smokers.

Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences Dr. Fahad bin Khalid Al-Dhufairi expressed his happiness over this notable achievement carried out by the research group in the college’s labs which were designed and equipped with state of the art technology.
