RECEPTION OF WINNING TEAM MEMBERS OF MIDDLE EAST EXHIBITION

Majmaah University Rector, Dr. Khalid Al-Muqrin received the invention team that won the Gold Medal in the 9th International Exhibition of Patents held in Kuwait under the patronage of the Emir of Kuwait, His Highness, Sheikh Subah Al-Ahmad Al-Subah in collaboration with the International Exhibition of Patents in Geneva, which took place from 16 to 19/01/2017.

Obtained a patent NO. 4923 from King Abdul-Aziz City for Science and Technology, the invention represented a device that could measure the cholesterol level in the blood using a biosensor enveloped in nuclear titanium oxide particles.

Majmaah University Vice-rector for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Muhammad Al-Shaie, the Dean of Academic Research, Dr. Thamir Al-Harbi, the Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences, Dr. Fahad Al-Thafiri, Head of the Research Team at Sheikh Abdullah Al-Twijri Research Chair, Dr. Raed Al-Baradie in addition to the team members attended the meeting.

Dr. Muqrin listened to a detailed explanation of the device by Dr. Baradei who pointed out the mechanism of the device as a bio sensor that use nuclear titanium oxide particles to measure the cholesterol level in under 10 seconds without the need to take a blood sample to the lab. A blood drop is only needed to be put on the sensor, and the result would be shown in a short time.

The purpose of such a device is to discover a faster and easier way for the patients to have their blood tested without affecting the accuracy or the quality of the procedure.

Additionally, the cost of the test is minimal for a patient. The device is also not affected by the other blood components such as vitamin C or the uric acid.

Dr. Muqrin expressed his admiration of and pride in such achievement, and thanked the Vice-rector for Research, Dr. Muhammad Al-Shaie, the research Chair and the team members for their great efforts in that invention.

Dr. Shaie thanked the rector for his solid backing of the team in their research journey and the lavish reception of the winning team that reflects the great interest of the University in innovation and excellence.
