PARTICIPATION IN TIBYAN PROGRAM FOR EXTREMISM

Under the instructions of Majmaah University Rector Dr. Khalid Al-Muqrin, the Deanship of Student Affairs participated in the TIBYAN program that aims at fighting extremism and protecting the students from extreme ideas. The 5-day program is co-held by King Abdul-Aziz Center for National Dialogue and King Khalid University in Abha.  A large number of scholars, academics and media figures took part in the event, which included workshops and forums aimed at addressing radical ideas in detail.

The first 2 days saw discussions of ways of protecting young men from extreme ideas on the internet through 4 workshops examining the characteristics of radical concepts rife online, along with the best ways to address them in and outside Universities in order to arm students with the right and non-extreme knowledge.

The third and fourth days covered the major aspects: an introduction to the concept of extremism, causes of this phenomenon and the role of social media in spreading fundamentalism in addition to creative ways to fight that extremism.

The training program was concluded on Thursday 23/5/1437 by showing people who retracted from extremist ideology and short films about intellectual zealotry.

Mr. Majid Al-Shenefi – Supervisor of Student Activities at the Student Affairs Deanship- has represented the University delegation in the program as well as the following students: Anas Al-Jedie (College of Science in Zulfi), Abdul-Majid Al-Aula (College of Business Administration), and Ryan Omari (College of Science and Humanities in Ghaat.

Dr. Hamad Al-Qamizi commended the participation of the University students in such national forums as it develops their patriotism, and protects them from stray ideas besides contributing to the building of a distinct generation.

Dr. Qamizi thanked the University Rector Dr. Khalid Al-Muqrin and Vice-rector for Academic Affairs for their support of and continuing care for the students.
