MU ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATORY TO OBSERVE ‘RING OF FIRE’ SOLAR ECLIPSE

In cooperation with the General Authority for Tourism and National Heritage, the university Astronomical Observatory in Hawtat Sudair is preparing to observe the solar eclipse which will occur on Thursday morning 26th December, 2019.
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon gets between Earth and the sun, and the moon casts a shadow over Earth. A solar eclipse can only take place at the phase of new moon, when the moon passes directly between the sun and Earth and its shadows fall upon Earth’s surface. But whether the alignment produces a total solar eclipse, a partial solar eclipse or an annular solar eclipse depends on several factors.
The ‘ring of fire’ solar eclipse – which has not occurred for 118 years - will be visible in the following cities: Jawdat – Beqiq – Al-Hafouf – Salwa –Ras Abo-Qasmis – Al-Batha. A partial eclipse will be seen in the other areas of the kingdom.
The ‘ring of fire’ solar eclipse – expected to start 5:33 am - will also be seen in countries such as UAW, Oman, Qatar, India, Sir Lanka, Indonesia, Singapore.
