Overview

The program aims to provide highly qualified engineers in various fields of electrical engineering to work in governmental and industrial institutions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council. Graduates of the program are expected to contribute to filling the shortage of engineers and pushing the country forward technologically. The limited number of qualified engineers, coupled with the restrictions and limitations on the types of jobs available to graduates, requires them to train in various applications of electrical engineering. This has been taken into consideration in the programs offered by the department, as the programs have been adapted to meet the needs of the labor market in the Kingdom and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, where job opportunities are available for our graduates.

Objectives

The program aims to:

  1. Prepare students with a strong foundation in mathematical, scientific, and engineering principles, enabling them to demonstrate technical competence in identifying, formulating, analyzing, and solving engineering problems.
  2. Develop the professional skills necessary for leading in the engineering discipline while fostering lifelong learning abilities to adapt to rapid technological changes. Additionally, it supports higher education pursuits in engineering fields, shaping successful researchers, entrepreneurs, experts, and educators who engage in practical experience while upholding high ethical and professional standards.

Requirements

Applications for admission to the College of Engineering must be submitted to the Deanship of Admission and Registration, which sets the university-wide admission criteria and imposes its specific requirements. Admission to the College of Engineering follows a two-stage selection process.

In the first stage, applicants must achieve a minimum composite score of 80, calculated as follows:
Composite Score = 0.3 × [High School GPA] + 0.3 × [General Aptitude Test (GAT)] + 0.4 × [Academic Achievement Test for Scientific Majors]

The General Aptitude Test (GAT) is conducted by the National Center for Assessment.

The college may impose additional admission restrictions, such as setting a maximum number of accepted students.

Applications for the College of Engineering open once a year, not every semester, and adjustments are made in accordance with regulations and policies. The Deanship of Admission and Registration announces application dates and document submission requirements. For more details, please visit www.mu.edu.sa.

In the second stage, admission to the College of Engineering requires passing the Preparatory Year, which is specifically designed for engineering students. The required minimum Preparatory Year GPA for admission is 3.75 out of 5, along with a STEP English proficiency test score of 67.

Completion of all preparatory courses is not a mandatory condition for admission; however, students must pass English, Mathematics, and Physics courses with a minimum grade of D to qualify for enrollment in the college. Other courses, such as Study Skills and Computer Science, can be completed during the first semester at the College of Engineering. However, students must finish these courses by the end of the first semester; otherwise, their enrollment will be suspended until completion.
