ADVISING AND COUNCILING CENTER AT DEANSHIP OF STUDENT AFFAIRS CONCLUDES ITS ACTIVITIES FOR FIRST SEMESTER

At the request of MU rector, Dr. Khalid al-Muqren, and the follow-up of the vice-rector for educational affairs, Dr. Mohammed al-Oubudi, the Deanship of Student Affairs, represented by the Advising and Counseling Center, concluded its activities for the second semester of the academic year 1442 AH.

Six main programs were held, subsumed by different sub-activities as follow:

First: ‘Be aware’ program which aims to ramp up the awareness of students with regard to surrounding environment. The program included the following sub-activities:

“Motivations for Study” – presented by Dr. Ahmed al-Zahrani, vice-dean of Student Affairs and faculty member in the Department of Special Education, College of Education, Majmaah – 151 students attended the event.

  • “Promote positive thoughts” – presented by Dr. Khalid al-Ofaisan, dean of Student Affairs and faculty member in the Department of Educational Science, College of Education – 279 students attended the event.

  • “Safe life for you and your family”- presented by Dr. Rehab Mohammed, Coordinator of Student Council and Advising Unit and Faculty member in the Department of English Language, College of Science and Humanities in Ghat – 174 students attended the event.

  • “Self-immunity” – presented by Dr. Nawal al-Mesned, Faculty member in the Department of Educational Science, College of Education – 160 students attended the event.

Second: ‘Rifq’ program which aims to tackle some physiological and social phenomena. The program included the following sub-activities:

“Social Phobia” – presented by Dr. Abdelhameed Ameen, CEO of SCAC and Faculty member in the Department of Educational Science, College of Education – 105 students attended the event.

“How to Free Yourself from Negative Emotions – presented by Ms. Nujud al-Moteb, Assistant of CEO of Student Council and Advising Center- 222 students attended the event.

  • “Cautiously we receive” – presented by Dr. Ibrahim al-Huseinan – adviser of Student Council and Advising Center and faculty member in the Department of Educational Science, College of Education – 144 students attended the event.

“Time to change” – presented by Dr. Abdelbaqi Arafa, faculty member in the Department of Educational Science, College of Education – 133 students attended the event.

“Techniques to overcome stress” – presented by Ms. Aljawharah al-Subaye, coordinator of Student Council and Advising Center, College of Science and Humanities in Remah – 192 students attended the event.

“The art of solving family problems” – presented by Dr. Fahad al-Nughaimish, Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Science, College of Education – 199 students attended the event.

Third: “My career” program which aims to assist students to realize their abilities and develop their skills and included the following sub-programs:

“What is after graduation” – presented by Dr. Faris al-Faris, vice-dean of Student Affairs and head of Law Department at College of Business Administration – 239 students attended the event.

“Ambitious youths” – presented by Dr. Salma al-Osaimi, coordinator at Deanship of Student Affairs – 186 students attended the event.

  • “Essential skills for freelancers” – presented by Dr. Nasser al-Shareef, vice-dean and head of Department of Business Administration – 387 students attended the event.

Fourth: “My skills” program which aims to exchange thoughts among the student advising and counseling coordinators and to learn the skills of dealing with advising sessions. The program included a workshop, entitled “Relationship between advisor and student” – presented by Dr. Abdelhameed Ameen, CEO of SCAC, Dr. Ibrahim al-Huseinan – adviser of Student Council and Advising Center and faculty member in the Department of Educational Science, College of Education and Ms. Nujud al-Moteb, Assistant of CEO of Student Council and Advising Center. – 19 coordinators attended the event.

Fifth: “We are with you” program, which aims to assist students to overcome their psychological and social problems via advising sessions via WhatsApp or phone. – 80 consultations were held.

Sixth: “Advise me” program, which aims to introduce students to some of the social and psychological problems. A contest was held on the World Mental Health Day for the best graphic motion of raising awareness about depression effects.

The dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Khalid al-Ofaisan, pointed out that the primary aim of these programs is to support students and improve their skills.  The deanship intended to diversify the programs -in line with the university goas and quality standards – to allow students to acquire the necessary skills.

All these activities were held virtually using Blackboard platform with the assistance of both the Deanship of E-Learning and Deanship of Information Technology.
