Saudi Arabia has designated the year 2025 as the Year of Handicrafts to celebrate the cultural value that handicrafts represent in Saudi culture, to solidify their place as authentic cultural heritage, and to enhance their practice, preservation, and presence in contemporary life.
As part of the agreement between Majmaah University, represented by the Social Responsibility Observatory, and the Royal Institute for Traditional Arts (Wirth), a series of handicraft workshops were organized to empower participants and develop their skills in traditional crafts.
The first workshop was titled "Leather Craft Skills", presented by Mu'taz Al-Hubaishi. This workshop aimed to teach participants how to work with leather, including cutting, designing, and shaping to produce unique and high-quality leather pieces with a traditional touch.
The second workshop was "Embroidery Craft Skills", presented by Dana Al-Ghamdi. This workshop focused on traditional embroidery art, teaching participants the basics of decoration and hand sewing, contributing to preserving and modernizing this ancient craft.
The third workshop was "Arabic Calligraphy Skills", presented by Ubaid Al-Nufai'i. This workshop provided an opportunity for Arabic calligraphy enthusiasts to learn its basics, including different styles of calligraphy and techniques for improving handwriting, which enhances the aesthetics of traditional writing.
