March 3rd of every year marks World Wildlife Day, which aims to highlight the importance of protecting nature by humans and increasing their awareness of the need to protect wild animals and plants from extinction. They contribute to environmental, genetic, social, economic, scientific, educational, cultural, recreational, and aesthetic aspects for human well-being and sustainable development. The World Wildlife Day aims to unite efforts to combat crime against wildlife, reduce human-caused reductions in species numbers, which have significant economic, environmental, and social effects.
This day is an opportunity to celebrate the diversity and beauty of animals and plants and to raise awareness about the importance of preserving this wealth and diversity. It also provides a unique opportunity to make significant progress in preserving wild animal and plant species as components of biological diversity, as well as the means of livelihood for people, especially those who live in close contact with nature and use it sustainably.
World Wildlife Day is consistent with Goals 1, 12, 14, and 15 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and their broad commitments to reducing poverty, ensuring sustainable resource use, and preserving life on land and underwater to halt biodiversity loss.
