Brief Report  

Topic of Presentation:           Problems in Teaching English as a 2nd Language

The topic of the presentation was "Problems in Teaching English as a 2ndLanguage". Factors that retard learning of English as a second language (ESL) were discussed via slides.  Furthermore, the ways & methodologies that can be used to impart better knowledge to our students were also focused. Following suggestions can be effective to improve over all English proficiency of our students. I reckon if they are carried out we can get far better results.

Suggestions:

• Medium of instruction should be English for all majors to enhance students' proficiency in English.

• Provision of language lab can yield better results in listening & speaking skills.

• Provision of original  books to students can make a difference to their ESL learning.

• Access of internet in library & classrooms will make ESL learning quite interesting. Students can leaf through a lot of  useful  education sites.

• Informal meetings of students & teachers will be extremely helpful to develop students' communicative skills.

• Library & provision of English newspaper can be effective to develop good reading habits.
