Overview

The clinical laboratory sciences (CLS) discipline is one of the rapidly growing biology domain due to the recent advancements made in medical technologies, treatment and diagnosis strategies. These advancements will likely to provide immense benefits to the global society. The Master’s degree of Science (MSc) in clinical laboratory by coursework and thesis is designed in two academic years to provide advanced modern education sessions and training in a variety of new generation fields of clinical laboratory. The program requires students to establish the necessary foundation in systems-level Molecular and cell biology, biostatistics and research methodology, in addition to the advanced clinical laboratory disciplines. Also, students will utilize the knowledge and practical skills they learn to conduct research in the end of the program to complete the degree, which will help students to do PhD in the relevant fields. Taken together, this program will give students the opportunity to learn and implement advanced diagnostic technologies and to perform leading edge research in clinical laboratory sciences.  

Based on the ministry of education and national qualifications framework in the Kingdome of Saudi Arabia, students will require to successfully achieve a minimum of 39 credit hours, of which a minimum of 31 credit hours must be in graduate level courses and 6 credit hours of thesis, to obtain the degree of Master of Sience in clinical laboratory (MScCLS). Students will also be prepared for the master's thesis in the third semester by 2 credit hours for research project. 

Objectives

  1. Equip students with a mastery of the fundamental principles and recent advances in Clinical Laboratory.
  2. Provide students with sufficiently detailed information about the modern technologies used in diagnostics and research to enable them to apply these to complex problem solving in the investigation of disease
  3. Enable students to understand and use the principles of laboratory management, safety, quality control, research and statistical methods in their professional lives.
  4. Motivate students to commit to life-long learning and scientific research to solve health problems of the community.
  5. Give students the ability to critically evaluate current research literature in biomedical science, and an acquisition of the skills for lifelong learning
  6. Allow students to develop mastery of management, leadership and communication skills, teamwork, writing and presentation skills

Requirements

  1. The applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a Saudi university or another recognized university (an official equivalency certificate is required if the degree is from a non-Saudi university).
  2. Submission of the General Aptitude Test for University Graduates.
  3. Submission of a standardized English language proficiency test.
  4. Submission of two academic recommendation letters from professors who have previously taught the applicant.
  5. Payment of a non-refundable application fee of 150 SAR.
  6. Submission of the Certificate of Completion of the Internship Year.
  7. Submission of  proof of passing the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) examination.
