MU RECTOR SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH UNITAR

Abdul Aziz Al-Wasel, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the UN in Geneva, welcomed in his office a delegation of MU led by the rector, Prof. Saleh Al-Mizil. Areas of mutual cooperation between the two sides were discussed in the visit which reflects the Kingdom's international efforts in the international community. 

An agreement was signed by MU with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in Geneva to enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest such as training, development and research, and to promote joint effort in achieving the United Nations sustainable development goals.

The agreement was signed by MU rector, Prof. Al-Mizil, and the Executive Director of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, Nikhil Seth.

The agreement aims to establish a CIFAL center in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which will represent the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). The center is expected to contribute to the advancement of the United Nations agenda for the year 2030. 

CIFAL comprises 24 International Training Centres across Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia and the Americas and aims to serve as a platform for capacity-building of government authorities and civil society leaders on topics related to sustainable development,

Mr. Seth pointed out that the agreement will develop a joint work to support the implementation of the Institute's strategy, hold various capacity-building activities in the areas of cybersecurity and youth empowerment, and promote joint effort to achieve the goals of the United Nations as well as other activities related to sustainable development and human capital.

MU's rector, Prof. Al-Mizil expressed his gratitude for signing this agreement, pointing out that it's a form of commitment by MU to support the United Nations global strategy and build national capacities to play a major and important role in the development, progress and prosperity of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
