A seminar entitled: Mechanisms for promoting the concepts of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals at campuses

CIFAL organized a seminar entitled: Mechanisms for Promoting the Concepts of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 at campus, on Tuesday September 26, 2023.

 

 
MU's rector, Prof. Musallam Al-Dosari, kicked off the seminar with a welcoming speech, highlighting that this seminar is a result of agreement signed between MU and CIFAL back in 2021. Stressing the importance of promoting the concept of sustainable development to achieving international goals, Prof. Al-Dosari mentioned the efforts exerted by Majmaah University to achieve those goals in line with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 to be a leader in the field of development and contributing to achieving global prosperity and peace.

The seminar was moderated by the Supervisor of the Initiative of promoting the concepts of UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030, Prof. Faisal Al-Mutairi, who stressed that the SDGs 2030 is a road map to achieve safety and peace in the globe. He added that universities are the conducive environment to promote sustainable development and educate society about the importance of achieving these goals.

The first topic was addressed by Prof. Abdullah Al-Harbi (professor of educational curricula, expert in applications of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals), who explained how to manage the relationship between scientific research and the concepts of SDGs2030 through the contribution of the United Nations Development Goals 2030 in directing scientific research to discuss issues addressing these goals.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Muhaisen, Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and expert on applications of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030, discussed the second topic which addressed the extent to which these goals contribute to providing plans that support the university's efforts to improve quality of life at the university. He highlighted the importance of moving from disseminating sustainability concepts to their application through innovative ways that improve the competency of faculty and students to address sustainable development goals. 

Dr. Bashaer Al-Rumaih, Professor of Program Evaluation and expert on the applications of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030, concluded the seminar by discussing how the concepts of the United Nations Development Goals can help in setting the university's activity plan for all university employees.
