ALKHEDEIRI: THE ASTRONOMICAL CONSULTANT IN THE UNIVERSITY: THE CRESCENT STATUS ON THURSDAY WITH THE PRESENCE OF SOME OBSTACLES MAY MAKE LIGHT ELONGATION FOR EVERY LUMINOUS LUMINARY

The astronomical observatory in the university is making preparations on Thursday to see the crescent of Shawwal. During the past days, preparations were made for the site to be ready with special devices installed to see the crescent. This is regarded one of the most objectives the university offers to the society and designs the framework of the astronomical observatory for it seeks to achieve these goals in the astronomy field. In fact, this occasion comes after the observatory participated effectively in seeing the crescent of Ramadan for this year 1436. The astronomical observatory takes part along with all crescent seers the supreme court called them in these days to see the crescent of Ramadan. The observatory in the university offers its devices and services to the government bodies and individuals interested in seeing the crescent. Seeing the crescent would begin (God willing) on Thursday 29/9/1436. This work is supervised by the consultant of the astronomical observatory of Faculty of Sciences and Humanities in Hootat Sadeer Mr. Abdullah Mohammad Alkhedeiri who announced that through following up the moon appearing and monitoring its movement in the sky dome, it is going to go down in the Alhana’ah status (the second Gemini). It is located to the south of the sun. The appearance of the moon of the end of the month was captured on Tuesday 27th of Ramadan at the dawn at 3:55. It rose to the horizon. It is possibly to appear on Wednesday 28 at 4:42. However, on Thursday, (God willing) the moon will be in a joining stage (the center of the sun and the moon on a long line). The moon will appear after 36 minutes of the sunrise in Alhanaah status (the second Gemini) which is located to the south of of the sun. In the evening of Thursday 28th of Ramadan, the moon will be to the south of the sun and this may affect some seers who don’t know the status of the crescent, especially in the presence of some obstacles that make some lighting elongation for every luminous luminary. At the end of his speech, Mr. Alkhedeiri asked Allah guidance and success and for this work to be dedicated to God. He also extended thanks and appreciation to the university administration and the University Rector Dr. Khaled Sa’ad Almuqrin who provided all the devices and possibilities for the work of the astronomical observatory to be successful in Faculty of Sciences and Humanities in Hootat Sadeer.
