Meanwhile, Supervisor of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Tuwaijri Stroke Research Chair at Majmaah University Dr. Raed Salim Al-Baradei unveiled that half of patients who survive immediate death after having a stroke often die during the next five years of injury.
He explained that made the World Health Organization classify the stroke as the second-leading cause of death for those over sixty and the fifth for those aged between 15 and 60 years.
He drew attention to three things that can limit the severity of the effects of stroke: first is to address the causative factors of ischemic stroke such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high LDL cholesterol, ischemic heart disease and blood diseases such as the sickle Anemia.
The second step is to educate the patient of the symptoms of stroke and the importance of quick emergency review. These stroke symptoms are sudden difficulty in speaking, comprehension and arm movement in addition to fainting.
The third is the speed of diagnostic imaging and giving the patient the appropriate treatment, given that the treatment of stroke requires a medical team including the emergency neurologist, the rehabilitation physician, the intensive care doctor and the cerebral catheter physician.
For his part, Dr. Raed Salim El-Baradei praised the unlimited support the Chair at Majmaah University receives from Dr. Khaled Saad Al-Muqrin and Vice- Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Dr. Abdullah Al-Shaye together with Sheikh Abdullah Al-Tuwaijri for their support and keen interest in the Chair and its activities. Dr. Baradie emphasized the willing of the Chair to support any research in the field of stroke.
