The Astronomical Observatory at Majmaah University undertakes many tasks including:
- Consolidate the act of monitoring and sighting crescent.
- Monitor various astronomical phenomena.
- Promote scientific research in the field of astronomy
- Achieve national and global leadership in the field of astronomy and its research.
- Disseminate the contributions of Muslim scholars in the field of science, especially astronomy.
- Serve governmental and private institutions

يتولى المرصد الفلكي بجامعة المجمعة تحقيق العديد من المهام على النحو الآتية :
الأهداف:
- رصد وترائي الأهلة.
- رصد الظواهر الفلكية المختلفة لدراستها.
- نشر الثقافة الفلكية بين أفراد المجتمع.
- تعزيز البحث العلمي في مجال الأحداث الفلكية الشرعية.
- تقديم المشورة للمؤسسات والهيئات ذات العلاقة.
- تقديم الدورات المتخصصة في مجال علوم الفلك.
- التعاون المحلي والدولي في مجال علوم الفلك.
