Examples of formalism comments

Examples of formalism comments that have been monitored by the auditing team of the Secretariat:

-No using of the correct form )CNPSTI Form RE-D2( in the introduction.

- No attaching of the Curriculum Vitae (CV) for researchers or consultant in the research.

- Writing the CV in Arabic or using  the Arabic language in the  place that is noted not to use  Arabic language if possible (For examples summary in Arabic language).

- No attaching of  a letter of approval from the advisor to participate in the research.

- no  mentioning of the role of the consultant in the project.

– Incompletion of the tables of research project evaluation form.

– Lacking of response letter of the comments of arbitrators in case of the research is submitted twice.

– No mentioning of the case of research (new, re-evaluated, assessed) or mention the case wrongly.

– Technology that is targeted by researcher must be unified. The strategic objectives which are reported in Table D1-6 are related to  biotechnology technology, while the proposal is classified under Mathematics and Physics, and in case the classification is moving in the same way , the strategic objectives of Mathematics and Physics technology must be adopted  ( you can find it in the Unit of Technology and Science or it can be taken from Site http://www.kacst.edu.sa/en/research/pages/default.aspx).

- The third field in table D1-6 should not be left blank and is expected to state the same goals mentioned in the proposal in page 5 and with logical harmony as will be mentioned in the first and second fields of the same table (after selecting the strategic technology that is targeted by the research proposal). Moreover, all fields of the table must be filled and taken into account  in accordance with the project, where the achieved objective must be specified in the third field by text according to each achieved result listed in the first field and matching the strategic goal in the second field. This table is the fact that will show the proposal is within the program of technologies.

- Table D1-6 is not available and it is very important to determine the occurrence of the proposal within the strategic goals of the target technology or not, and the table must complete all its fields by the required texts.

-12- Researcher states there is one goal of the research proposal and four goals must be achieved to facilitate achieving this goal, while in tables D1-3 and D1-2, the researcher states five goals that do not look like the goals that were mentioned in  Project Objective. It is necessary that the objectives of the proposed research must be definite accurately and concatenated to reach the ultimate goal, and themselves  will be listed by  text in the first field of the two listed tables. Also the phases in Table D1-3 mean the stages of  work and not the number of months as stated.

- Researcher states in table D1-2 that there are five goals while mentioning five goals as figures in Table D1-3  is completely wrong. Goals in the first field of the two tables should be the same as mentioned in the text of Project Objectives. It is necessary that the objectives of the proposed research must be definite accurately and concatenated to reach the ultimate goal. Also the phases in Table D1-3 mean the stages of  work and not the number of months as stated.

- Researcher mentions in table D1-2 in the first field, there are five goals while mentioning six goals as figures in Table D1-3 is completely wrong. Goals in the first field of the two tables should be the same as those reported in the Project Objectives.

- Table D1-5 in the field of Participation, researchers  who will work in each of these stages should list their names  and not leaving it blank.

- Goals should be placed by text in Table D1-3, not just numbers that mean nothing.

- There are fields left empty at the top of Page 2 PROJECT INFORMATION.

- There are no graduate students.

– Resume of the adviser is not existed and must be mentioned with a copy of the adviser's  message from his e-mail that shows his/her consent to work with the team.

– Resumes must be merged with the same proposal file and not in separate files. Also the page of contents should be transmitted to pre-page English summary, and according to the instructions the entire text must be in the same line and size.

-  PHASE AND TASKS should be in Table D1-3 that are similar to those listed in Table D1-5

- The proposal is prepared for evaluation and has a lot of information, but it needs to arrange the sequence of information correctly, its current status seems disoriented and lacking basic information to enable assessors to evaluate it again.

- Tables generally must be placed according to their sequences in the proposal and not grouped together at the beginning of the proposal.

- Table D1-5 is not existed and must be put  because of the  need to know the work of each researcher for each stage of the completion of the research.

- There is duplicated information. For example table on page XX is repeated in page XX.

- Scheduled budget needs to re-consider the number of advisers and researchers because they are few and do not match with what is stated in the first pages of the proposal.

- Instructions that state the necessity of using Times New Roman font size 12 for all the texts of the proposal, tables, summaries, and resumes ... Etc. both in Arabic and English languages must be taken into account.
