MU TO MANUFACTURE VIRUS PROTOTYPES OF PROTECTION EQUIPMENT AND VENTILATORS

Amid Coronavirus pandemic and the unprecedented cooperation seen among all the country’s sectors to serve citizens and residents, and at the request of MU Rector, Dr. Khalid Al-Muqren, the university will start to produce prototypes of five medical products that will support the national health sectors. The five products are: surgical masks, medical face shields, a connecting device that allow multiple ventilators to be used for more than one patient at one time, Continuous positive airway pressure and low-cost hybrid ventilators.
All products will also undergo special tests to ensure that they conform to required national specifications and approved by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority. Some industrial prototypes are underway and patents will be applied for later. During the second phase of the project, the private sector will be allowed to invest in manufacturing these products.
The dean of the College of Applied Medical Science and the head of the research team, Dr. Mazen Al-Ghatani, extended his thanks to MU Rector for the unlimited support and encouragement to such projects.
