The University was established on Rammadan 3, 1430, August 24, 2009, pursuant to the consent of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud.
The approval was crowned by the issuance of his Majesty’s decree No. 194 / A dated Tho Alhijah 30, 1430, December 17, 2009, of appointing His Excellency Dr. Khaled bin Saad Rector of the University.
It was decided that the university establishment to proceed by transferring the authority of north of Riyadh colleges of King Saud University, Qassim University and Princess Nora Bint Abdul Rahman University to be under Al-majma’ah university.
The preparatory year duties were distributed among the university faculties whereas each college has its own preparatory year management and subject to its rules, until the beginning of the current academic year, where a decision was made to establish a separate preparatory year faculty admitting students who have got a high school certificate in Medical and Engineering programs to prepare and evaluate students for his undergraduate study
