A Brief History of College of Engineering

The College of Engineering was established by Royal Decree, as a part of the expansion plan of the university system in various regions of the Kingdom, and to meet the ever growing demand of Higher Education in general and students in particular, thereby easing the pressure on the existing universities. At its forty-fifth session, held on 18/1/1428 H, the Council of Higher Education issued its Ruling No. 7/45/1428, approving the establishment of the College of Engineering in Majmaah. His Majesty the King approved this in his telegram Order No.3030/MB dated 23/3/1428 H.

After passing the preparatory year on merit (determined by the college), the student is eligible for the admission to College of Engineering in Majmaah where he/she studies a number of subjects for four years (eight levels). After meeting the requirement of the course throughout the year, the student gets a Bachelor Degree in Engineering that qualifies him/her to work as a prolific engineer able to play his/her role efficiently and successfully in the society.

The college started its first term of the academic year 1429/1430 H with two majors; Electrical Engineering and Computer and Network Engineering where the University enrollment grew to more than sixty students.

By the Grace of Allah, the specialized courses will commence from the second term of the academic year 1431/1432 with two more departments; Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

At present, the college has a number of distinguished faculty members in the majors, and still continues to attract outstanding professors, teaching assistants and technicians in engineering majors from international universities and scientific centers.

Our future plan is to double the number of students in the College. At present, a study is being carried out by specialized committees in the college in order to update the academic plan to keep pace with modern development and rapid changes in engineering sciences. These committees are devising an ambitious five-year plan on the basis of ongoing courses and those foreseeable in the future.
